Anand Raj Anand was born in Delhi, and spent all his childhood there. He belonged to a family of jewellers. Anand was very passionate about music from his teens. In school functions, he would sing his own compositions rather than any film songs. When he came to college, He forced his principal to start musical activities. Anand Raj Anand was also a part of a local band, which performed on many occasions and won any awards.

In 1992, Anand refused to continue his family business, and came to Bombay instead. However, he had to struggle a lot to make the producers listen to his tunes.

Anand got a break when Times Music used three of his songs for their film Masoom (1996). One of those songs “Chhota Bachcha…” went on to be a chartbuster song, and Anand Raj Anand got a few other film offers. The next chartbuster to come from Anand Raj Anand was “It happens only In India” from Pardei Babu (1998). This song was a huge rage, and Anand Raj Anand never looked back. Later, Anand raj Anand kept giving occasional hits like “Kudi Kunwari…” (Hadh kar di aapne), “Tote tote…” (Bichchoo) and “Kem Che…” (Jis Desh mein Ganga Rehta Hai).

Kaante (2002) was Anand Raj Anand’s next big album. All its songs were hugely popular, and Anand Raj anand also garnered a few nominations for Best Music that year. This album also brought him very near the A-league of Music directors. In 2003, Anand Raj Anand didn’t have any successful film albums. Later, the songs of Indra Kumar’s Masti (2004) brought him back to the limelight. However, Anand raj anand didn’t give many memorable songs thereafter, and was soon lost in a crowd of “Modern” music-directors. Anand Raj Anand received a nomination for Filmfare Award Best Music in 2002 for Kaante.

Composer and Remixer Harry Anand is his younger brother.
