Anees Bazmee was born in a very middle class family. But he was passionate about films right from his childhood. After finishing his studies, Anees Bazmee came to Mumbai to try his luck in films.

He started off as an assistant director to none other than Raj Kapoor when he was making Prem Rog (1982). He also assisted on Jaanoo (1985). He also wrote dialogues for Hum Farishtey Nahin (1988).

Anees Bazmee got his first break as a script writer for David Dhawan’s Swarg (1990). Swarg was a big hit, and Anees Bazmee became a permanent dialogue writer for David dhawan’s films. Anees wrote many Hit films like Aankhen (1993) and also penned dialogues for Shola aur Shabnam (1992), Bol Radha Bol (1992) and Raja Babu (1994).

In 1995, Anees Bazmee made his first film Hulchul(1995) starring Ajay Devgan and Kajol. It was a flop however. Anees Bazmee reached his peak when he made Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha (1998). It was an unofficial remake of French Kiss (1995). Although it was panned by critics, it turned out to be one of the biggest hits that year. It also took Ajay Devgan’s career to a new height. His next film Deewangee (2002) was also a hit, and also won Ajay Devgan all the awards that year for his performance. However, Karz - The Burden of Truth (2002) which was written by him, was no great shakes at the Box-office.

Meanwhile, He also wrote Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004) for David Dhawan. In 2005, He made a comedy No Entry (2005) which again was the biggest hit that year. However, His next film Sandwich (2006), the much delayed remake of Saajan Chale Sasural, went unnoticed. But Anees Bazmee made amends for it with Welcome (2007), which again was one a big multi-starrer and one of the biggest hits last year. In 2008, Anees Bazmee's Singh is Kinng (starring Akshay Kumar) is the biggest film of his career. Anees Bazmee was nominated for Zee Cine award for Best Screenplay for Mujhse Shaadi Karogi in 2004.
