Atanu Ghosh had shown his skill in story telling while making Tele-Films and I suppose he is one of the best Tele-Film director in Bengali.
“Angshumaner Chhobi” is his first for the big screen and he has proved that for good story telling size of the screen does not matter. The story and the script of “Angshumaner Chhobi” is also by Atanu Ghosh himself and he has given us a well told story.
The story is about an ageing eight years ago because he believes has nothing more to contribute in cinema acting, he stays fare away from the city.
The story is also about a middle aged actress (Indrani Halder) who received national best actress award in her first film some eight years back. There after due to her transforms, mood shifting and all other things she gradually lost her ground and these days she is a “jatra” actress who performs in open field of remote villages.
This story is also about a young man Angshuman (Indraneil Sengupta) who left Kolkata before eight years to study film in Italy. After graduation he stayed back in Italy and made a few good documentaries. When he left Kolkata his teacher (Sabyasachi Chakraborty) requested him to make at least one Bengali movie. So he has ventured to Kolkata to make a Bengali film. Angshuman has written a script based on the real life of a Italian painter who at the old age slowly becomes blind and loses his memory and being taken care of a maid. Slowly an emotional bondage grows between them.
Angshuman landed in Kolkata with a wish to rope in Soumitra Chatterjee and Indrani Halder in the roles of painter and maid.
Atanu has cleverly weaved two other stories in he main story. One is the story of the ageing actor and the other story is of actress who have these days have a unique relation with a male sex worker (Tota Roy Choudhury). The actress was married but she had no relation with her husband. The film gets interesting when her husband dies mysteriously. Crime investigator (Ananya Chatterjee) takes charge of unearthing that mystery, and there three stories criss-crosses simultaneously and makes the movie worth watching.
Bhaskar Chatterjee and Pijush Ganguly are also there in two interesting roles. Rudranil Ghosh as the friend of Angshuman in unique. But Rocket Mondal’s music doesn’t fit in with the structure of the film.
