Anjaana Anjaani rating: 7 out of 10(Divya Solgama wrote on 01 Oct 2010)

Siddharth Anand started his individual career with Salaam Namaste for Yash Raj Films, which was highly inspired by loads of Hollywood films. This continued with Ta Ra Rum Pum and Bachna Eh Haseeno, both had some traces of Hollywood films and all the movies featured stories of N.R.I’s. Following the trend his latest movie ‘Anjaana Anjaani’ also is a love story between two strangers based in U.S. so will this movie have something original or follow the same routine Siddharth did in YRF banner? Let’s find out.

Story is bit different initially but later falls flat and goes on the routine candy floss way. It does has some similarities to Shahid-Kareena starrer Jab We Met, at least in terms of the characters initially, but later it’s on its own. The movie belongs to the screenplay writers as there are loads of situations in the film. After the initial 15-20 mins you know where the film will end, but what we don’t know is what happens between them. There are some interesting moments like When Ranbir flirts with Priyanka in Sangam style, Ranbir and Priyanka in pub, the whole swimming episode in middle of ocean, Ranbirs dance in Gay club and many more. First half of the film is entertaining and has lots of good moments. Second half starts on the same lines as first half, but looses the grip at times thanks to excess songs. Climax is predictable, but that’s what all candy floss love stories are, aren’t they ? Editing needed to be bit sharper in second half and minimum one song was needed to be trimmed. Camera work is nice and has captured the U.S in beautiful way.

Music is good, the best track is Tu Na Jaane and Anjaana Anjaani. Followed by Abhi ke Abhi and Dheemi Dheemi which are visual treat. Sadly Teri Meri, Tujhe Bhoola and Halka does not get breathing space as they come one after one in short interval. Background music takes care of the mood of the film.

Siddharth Anand’s Bachna Eh Haseeno was entertaining as well as interesting plot too. Out here the interesting part is there in first half, but fades out in second. Though the romantic track continues, but the overdose of songs in second half spoils the fun. It’s a brave attempt to make a whole romantic film with just two main lead actors and still manage to keep your interest in the film. But in second half especially climax something else would had been welcomed.
Ranbir Kapoor gives another nice role, from the scene one he was totally in the character and does essay his role with ease. He balanced his cute looks and serious image very well. Special mention to his Disco Dancer dance {which was also sung by him}. Priyanka looked but old to ranbir, but still was gorgeous. She was bit loud for her character, but did proper balance to serious image of ranbir in the initial parts. Small appearances by Joy Sengupta, Zayed Khan, Vishal and Tanvi Azmi were nice.

So bol meri “Filmi Khopdi” is film mein kitna hai dum ?

Dum hai, ahcha dum hai in first half, which starts fading in the second half. But overall a nice romantic popcorn candy floss film. Barring the back to back songs in second half, the movie won’t bore you at any point. It keeps going on with entertainment and the new chemistry between the lead pair. Thus making it a decent watch.
