Anjan Dutta is Bengali actor-director and singer who has given new dimension to Bengali music (Jibonmukhi Gaan) inspired by Kabir Suman.
Anjan Dutta was born on 19th January, 1954 . In 1971, he passed Senior Cambridge from St.Pauls School, Darjeeling. He became accustomed to western music and became a fan of Bob Dylan during his youth. Later, he completed his M.A in English from Calcutta University in 1977. He was inspired by Kabir Suman and eventually established himself within a short span of time as a singer. Anjan Dutta started his career as an actor.
He made his acting debut in Mrinal Sen’s “Chaalchitra” and followed by ‘ Kharij ‘by the same director 1982. He is considered to be a talented actor of Bengali parallel cinema. He participated as a young actor in Venice Film Festival for his film “Chaalchitra”. Grihajuddha (1982), Mahaprithivi (1992), Shilpi, Sunya theke Shuru (1993), Mr and Mrs. Iyer (2002) showed his acting potential. He has directed films like Bada Din, The Bong Connection , Bow Barracks forever, and teleserials like Half Chocolate.
In 1981, he got the ‘Alitalia’ award Best debutant actor in Venice film Festival for the film “Chaalchitra”.
