Anjan Srivastava, had a passion for acting from an early age. However, he came from an ordinary background in Kolkata, and a family in which acting was looked down upon as a profession.
Hence Anjan completed his B.Com and even acquired an LLB from Calcutta University. His father however relented, after the death of Anjan's sister, and gave him his blessings to seek a career of his choice. At the age of 30, Anjan started working with a theatre group in Calcutta.
He was already working in Allahabad Bank when he decided to move to Bombay to try and break into the theatre circuit there.
He applied for a transfer and moved to Mumbai. He juggled between his job, theatre, films and television in Mumbai. He also got tremendous support from his friends in the industry such as Amitabh Bachchan and Jackie Shroff. He recently retired from the bank after 31 years of service.
In the 1980s, he shot to fame, portraying the lead role, in the poular serial called Waghle Ki Duniya.
He then progressed to the big screen as well. Among the popular films that he has worked in are, Golmaal, Bemisal, Khuda Gawah and Pukar. He also worked in other television series such as Tamas, Nukkad, Alpaviram, Wagle Ki Nayi Duniya.
Anjan is a father of 17-year-old twins (a boy and a girl) and a seven-year-old daughter. Besides acting on stage and in films, he is also involved in the Indian People's Theatre Association (IPTA) as holds the post of Vice - President there.
He has received acclaim for his recent performance as a scheming uncle in the big banner film, Yuvvraaj (2008).
