Dr. Anup Ghosal was born and brought up in a musical family. His mother Labanya had been a major source of inspiration. Anup Kumar’s sisters were also good singers. At the age of four arranged for his musical training. Anup sang a song when his age was only for Sishu Mahal of All India Radio.Anup learnt Thumri, Kheyal, Bhjan, Rag Pradhan, Rabindra Sangeet and Nazrul Giti and Foul songs. His gurus were Sukhen Goswami, Manindra Chakraborty and Debabrata Biswas. Anup did his masters, as well as Ph.D from Rabindra Bharati University. His thesis was entitled “Nazrulgiti – Roop O Rasanubhuti” Anup stood first in Sangeet Bharati Degree exam in 1966-67 and awarded Gold Medal.
Anup’s first venture in to movies as a play back singer was at his age 19 years. He sang Satyajit Ray’s film “Gupi Gyen Bagha Byen”.
Anup is one of the lead singers of Nazrul Giti as well as Classical songs. He sang for various Bengali, Hindi as well as Bojhpuri and Assamese movies. Tere Mausam Sawal, the song of Masoom is super hit song. All the songs of “Gupi Gyne Bagha Byne are ever hit. He has visited U.K, U.S.A, Canada, Germany for various musical concerts and appreciated very much. His Nazrul Giti were also very hit.He received his first National Award in 1980-81 as best male play back singer for the film Hirak Rajar Deshe. He received four times BFJA Award for Tapan Sinha’s Sagina Mahato. Satyajit Ray’s Gupi Gyne Bagha Byne, Gupi Bagha Phire Elo and Sekhar kapoor’s Masoom. He is a top grade category artist of the All India Radio and Doordarshan. He has Also been recognized as the Honorary Citizen of Chicago in 1994.
Dr. Anup Ghosal written a book – “Gyaner Bhubane”. He spent his off time by watching sports. He is a fantastic fan of Indian Cricket Team.
