Anuradha Gupta was born in Kolkata on India’s Independence Day 15th August. Her father was Manju Prikash Basu and mother Prabha Basu. She studied first in Sister Nibedita School and then Ramesh Mitra Girls’ High School from where she passed her Higher Secondary Exam in 1974. In 1977 she became graduate in Honors in Bengali from Gokhle College.
She made film debut in 1988 film “Karoti” directed by Ajay Bandopadhay. She was the female lead of the film, but later she never became a heroine of any film she acted in. She remains till date a character artiste. The reason behind this is that her acting talent is of such a high caliber, directors of Bengali Cinema uses her in difficult characters. Before coming to films Anuradha learnt Classical dance from Mani Shankar and Birendra Biswas. She also learnt Classical and Modern singing from “Sourav Sangeetalay”. Apart from film acting she keeps herself busy in Radio Drama, Theatre and different television serials. She is married to actor Debraj Roy in 1976. She visited United States with her Drama Troupe in 1987.
