    Anurag Basu was inclined to theatre and television right from his childhood. Due to this same passion, Anurag Basu left his Engineering course midway, and decided to graduate in Science instead. When he was in B.Sc 3rd year, he was given an offer to direct the latter episodes a soap opera Tara by Raman Kumar. Tara went to achieve a cult status, and Anurag Basu achieved fame at such a young age.

    Anurag Basu then went on to direct many TV serials like Koshish ek asha, X Zone, Rishtey, Saturday Suspense etc. Anurag Basu got his break when her TV Producer Ekta Kapoor offered him to direct her production Kucch to Hai (2003). However, Anurag Basu had creative differences had Ekta Kapoor while the shooting and had to leave the film in amidst. Although the film was a flop, Anurag Basu’s deft handling of thriller scenes was appreciated.

    Anurag Basu was then noticed by Mahesh bhatt and he offered Anurag to direct his production Saaya (2003). Unfortunately, this film too was not any great shakes at the box-office.

    Anurag Basu’s next film Murder (2004) proved to be his break-through venture. Starring Mallika Sherawat and Emraan Hashmi, the film had very popular songs and some steamy scenes. As a result, Murder was a huge success. It made Mallika and Emraan overnight stars and Anurag got the much-needed boost.

    His next film Tumsa Nahi Dekha (2004) didn’t do well though. Anurag Basu then made Gangster (2006), which again took his flagging career to new heights. This film even won a lot of acclaim at film festivals across the globe. Anurag Basu then made Life in a… Metro (2007) which again proved to be a surprise hit. Meanwhile, Anurag Basu also directed a soap opera Love Story about three youngsters and their lives.

    Anurag Basu is palnning a film, Suicide Bomber, which will launch Mahesh Bhatt’s son Rahul. He is also planning to make a sequel to his own film Metro, and also directing a movie called Kites for Rakesh Roshan, starring Hrithik Roshan in the lead role. He suffered from Terminal illness after Tumsa Nahi Dekha, and was very critical for many months. Anurag won several awards for the screenplay of Life in a...Metro
