Mahesh Manna is a money-lender. Ghanashyam falls in love with Kadam, an innocent village-girl. He wants to gather more money so that he can marry her. But his most important possession - his boat is mortgaged to the money lender, Mahesh Manna. The fat thanedar babu is bribed by Mahesh Manna to oppose Ghanashyam. A bitter fight ensues between Mahesh and Ghanashyam and Rafik, an honest fish-wholeseller pays a hefty sum to Ghanashyam and his fellow fishermen. Seeing his own money also at stake, Rafik joins in the battle. At this juncture Kadam is forced to make false statements against Ghanashyam for which the latter has to even serve a prison sentence. However in the battle between good and evil which follows, virtue finally wins over vice.
