Apurva Asrani is an award winning film editor and a noted film critic based in Mumbai. Apurva won the Filmfare award for Best Editing-Satya, (shared with Bhanodaya).[1][2] In 2001, Apurva won the National Award (Rajat Kamal) for his edit of 'Snip!' the bilingual comedy directed by Sunhil Sippy. The National Awards Jury said. "The Editor has created an evocative rhythm enhancing the pace of the narrative while aesthetically maintaining the unit of form and content." Apurva's other work is the gang war film 'Chhal' directed by Hansal Mehta. He got praise for this work from critic all over the world. Apurva has also edited Anupam Kher's directorial debut 'Om Jai Jagadish' and Kalpana Lazmi's "Kyon?'. Recently, Apurva collaborated with Nagesh Kukunoor on his Akshay Kumar starrer 'Tasveer 8x10' as supervising editor. Awaiting release is Nagesh Kukunoor's 'Aashayein' (starring John Abraham).
Apurva has also worked as a director and producer. He has made one-hour horror films for the 'Khauff' series aired on SAB TV and subsequently on Sony Entertainment Television. In 2003, he co-directed a Bollywood film titled 'Out Of Control' for producer Vashu Bhagnani. The film received lukewarm box office response and was panned by critics but is remembered for its leading lady - the former Baywatch actress - Brande Roderick. Apurva disassociated himself from the film before its release due to creative differences with its producer Vashu Bhagnani and a battle between the two broke out in the press. Apurva has since not directed another feature film.
