Arati Majumdar was born in Dhaka, in the then east Pakistan now Bangladesh, on August 28th, 1924. Her father’s name was Lalit Kumar Ghosh. She attained Masters Degree. She her film debut at the age of 24 in “Ratrir Tapasya” directed by Pashupati Chattopadhay in 1948. She was the female lead of the film. But Arati’s first film was like a nightmare to her. She was badly criticized for her cracked voice. Arati did not complain about any kind of technical fault to any body, but to everybody's surprise, from the second film Ararti’s voice was perfectly OK.
Her film career was very short. She was married film Shushil Majumdar in 1949. A daughter was born to them. To bring up her daughter she left film acting in 1956. She acted only in 5 films. After retiring from films she became an academician. Ultimately she became the reader of Patna University. She died on June 5th, 1995.
