Though late, ultimately I and my friends successfully managed to reach Star, the theatre, on the 23rd August afternoon to watch the long awaited movie. In the mean time, I used to watch for peoples’ reaction about the movie; the anecdotes related, like the Nandan episode; and surely, the reviews in different dailies. So, it can be said that I was waiting eagerly, as well as critically…

The movie started with Devi Sitala [played by Chapal Bhaduri] pleading for her promotion--- she was looking for the social support that a king only can manage for her. Yes, as she ... » read more

Aar Ekti Premer Galpo is one of the most eagerly awaited films of the year for a couple of reasons. Firstly it is about the first film and definitely the first Bengali film which is about alternative sexuality and about homosexuality. Secondly a lot of people are looking forward to this film because it is about Rituparno, the actor and not the director. The director we have all seen, but it is the actor we are all looking forward to. The film has already been banned at Nandan as the government thinks the subject is too bold and strong for Indian audiences or rather the ... » read more

Koushik Ganguly’s latest film “Arekti Premer Galpo” is possible the first Bengali film on Homosexuality. In spite of elaborate gay-lovemaking scenes, the film never seems an erotic one and that is the bottom line of the film.
Abhirup (Rituparno Ghosh) is a gay film maker and is in love with his cinematographer Basu (Indranil Sengupta). But Basu is bi-sexual and he is at case with both his wife Rani (Churni Ganguly) and Abhirup. Abhirup knows it and feels pain for his partner’s dual sex-life but he doesn’t express it very explicitly, rather he releases his ‘love’ when ... » read more

    Salute to Rituporno Ghosh

The movie is superb..Rituporno has acted like a veteran actor. The movie is worth receiving at least one Oscar.
Chapal Bhaduri is awesome in acting. The photography is brilliant.I found the matching of two parts(the old and new) unique and extremely intelligent. The small dream of Aviroop in the movie is stupendous. Satyajit Ray followed by Rituporno has been giving so great dreams.
A must watch this movie.. » read more

How can a movie, that speaks of human relationships, no matter, how intricate and intransigent they prove to be, can tarnish the cultural paramountcy of Nandan, meant for quality exhibitions ?? Arekti Premer Golpo, as the very title suggests, brings home the quintessence of" just another love-story" brushed aside by the convention. The film has nothing abusive nor obscene, but has highlighted the relationship between two persons, one of whom finds absolute respite when clung fast to the robust breast of his partner. Lawfully decriminalized but customarily condemned,gay-relationship ... » read more

Kaushik Ganguly, the director and Tapan Biswas, the producer of the film Arekti Premer Galpo(Just Another Love Story)has shown enough bravado in taking up a subject for the film, which is still considered as a tabooed topic(don't ask me why)in our society.kaushik is witty enough to pen down the story of Roop, his androgynous protagonist by mingling it with biography of Chapal Bhaduri, the first proclaimed Gay actor on Bengali stage. Using Chinese box narrative as the mode of narration, the film is nonlinear blending Roop's own story with that of Chapal's ,which is shown in ... » read more
