Arundhati Hom Choudhry was born in 30th June in Agartala. Her mother was also a singer. Arindhati got first in the Loksangeet competition in 1968 at her school life. Then she came to Kolkata for graduation from Rabindrabharati University. Amiyo Das was her trainer.
She sang for Saroj Dey’s film "Je Jekhane Danriye". Her first Rabindra sangeet record Nil Digante helped to get BFJA award in 1975.
Two songs Jete Jete Kichu Kotha and Godhulir Swarnarage for Swati film in 1976 were superhit. She sang under the music direction of Sudhin Dasgupta Hemanta Mukherjee, Shyamal Mitra, Ajoy Das, Salil Choudhury, Mrinal Banerjee and Bappi Lahiri.
Her hit songs for the films are Datta, Dadar Kirti, Bhalobasa Bhalobasa, Behula Lakhindar, Pratisodh, Tagari. She also sang in Hindi films under the direction of Bhupen Hazarika for Chameli Memsaheb. Although she is a popular singer but she did not get into music direction as a solo director yet. She directed for Chander Bari with her husband Shibaji Banerjee.
She got BFJA award for five times she also got Anandalok award.
She is an active member of Association of Professional Performing singers which is a Welfare Organization for the singers. She married renowned singer Shibaji Chatterjee in the year 1987.
