Ashish Vidyarthi was born on February 8, 1967 in Tirichelli, Kerela. He grew up in New Delhi. He did his schooling from Bhartiya Vidya Bhawan. When he was in school, he made sure he participated in almost every skit or drama that took place.

By the time Ashish grew up, His liking for Acting went to the state of Passion. And he soon left for Bombay to make it big in Hindi films. Ashish Vidhyarthi’s first film was Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s dream project 1942: A Love Story (1994), where he played Ashutosh, one of the freedom fighters. His performance in his next film Droh Kaal (1994) came for much applause, but the masses were still unaware of him to large extent. Ashish Vidyarthi went on to play important parts in Oh Darling Yeh Hai India (1995), Naajayaz (1995) and Is Raat Ki Subah Nahi (1996)

His first notable performance aming the common cine-goers came in Jeet (1996). The masses liked his dialogue delivery and performance. Things changed for Ashish Vidyarthi completely with Ziddi (1997). He played a crooked Police commissioner with finesse, and enthralled the masses. Soon, Ashish Vidyarthi was touted as the next big menace on screen. Ashish Vidyarthi was a consistent performer ever since. He played pivotal roles in Major Saab (1998), Haseena Maan Jaayegi (1999) and Vaastav (1999) and retained his position.

In 2000, Ashish Vidyarthi again played small but crucial roles in Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai and Bichchoo. He then did David Dhawan’s Jodi no. 1 (2001) and Kyunki Main Jhooth Nahi Bolta (2001), where he convincingly played the role of a Don. His most memorable performance came in Kya Yehi Pyaar Hai (2002) as the bad-mouthed Police officer.

However, after this film Ashish Vidyarthi didn’t really do many memorable roles. With time, His attention veered to South Indian films. His performance in Gudumba Shankar (2004) came for a lot of acclaim. He then went on to do big films in south like Aaru (2005) and Pokiri (2006), and came across very convincingly. Both these films were huge hits. His performance in Athidi (2007) too was appreciated by his new fans down south.

He won National Award in 1994 for Best Supporting Actor for Drohkaal. He also won the Screen award in 1996 for Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin in the Best actor in a negative role category. His father Reba Vidyarthi is a famous Kathak Dancer.
