Till early 90’s we use to have films which use to be light entertainer with good usage of family drama. On one side we had directors like Vimal Kumar, T Rama Rao,etc who use to make such films but with more on drama and total dash of masala films. And on other side there were makers like Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Basu Chatterjee who use to add more humor and simplicity and score over all others. Slowly the humor started to get vulgar and simplicity lost its way. There were few directors who use to pop out once in a time, but then were majorly let down by the audience whose taste keeps changing as per the fad going around. Ashwini Dhir the maker of Super Hit comical T.V series “Office Office” which was a dark comedy focusing on the problems of a common man but in a fantastically humor mode, now brings you “Athithi Tum Kab Jaoge?” A film on unwanted guest. Let’s find out will he score this time or end up like his last dud’s “Krazzy 4” and “One Two Three”.

“Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge ?” is story of Punnet {Ajay Devgan}, who is a film script writer staying with his wife Moon Moon {Konkana Sen Sharma} and son. They are busy in their independent life and one day suddenly an Unwanted guest who claims to be long distance Chachaji Lambodar {Paresh Rawal} of Punnet. Initially he is liked by everyone, but slowly thanks to his mannerism and behavior Punnet and Moon Moon starts going through a hell. One day they decide that they cannot take it more, thus decides to plan out a strategy to send back Chachaji back to his native place. Will they succeed? Or Chahchaji will be stuck with them forever? To find out watch the movie.

Story is simple and sweet, which I guess everyone can relate to. Screenplay is nice in first half but slow down in the second, thus the movie tends to drag a bit at that time. But then the movie keeps bouncing back with some sweet or simple humorous scenes and keeps you interested in the movie. Check out the Chachaji’s Farting scenes, Ajay-Paresh talking about yesteryears actors, The Whole Muharat stuff with Kaalia and Chachaji scenes, The Hotel raid scene and few more. Dialogs are nice and funny, but needed much more especially in the second half. Editing is nice but needed to tighten a bit in second half. Camera work is average.

Music is Quite normal, but the Re-Mix Bhajan version of Beedi jalaile is superb and so is Suhani Raat Dhal Chuki. Rest all are drag. Background music is average.

Ashwini Dhir is a director with loads of potential, which went for total toss in “Krazzy 4” and was there in bits and pieces in “One Two Three” in comparison with “Office Office”. But out here this time he seems to get majority of his cards right, but still missed few. He could had made this movie with overdose of comedy and some cheap vulgar scenes, which he dint and thus these points become the highlight of the film. The message does not sound preachy in the film and is a perfect family watch.

Ajay Devgan has mastered in comedy along with dramatic scenes , out here as a sufferer he has portrayed his part with total conviction. His expressions are quite funny. Konkana Sen Sharma after Dil kabaddi gives another funny role. Paresh Rawal is the most important character in this film and thus has done the best without overdoing it. Sanjay Mishra, Satish Kaushik, Akhlendra Mishra and Mukesh Tiwari are wasted in the small roles.

So bol meri “Filmi Khopdi” is film mein kitna hai dum ?

Dum hain, acha khaasa time pass fun hain, but in simple and limited manner. The movie does slow down in second half, but manages to catch the train in the climax and makes it a simple, sweet and interesting movie. Just hoping that the Darshak does not watch this film on Small screen and go and watch it in big screen, without much expectation and have some simple fun.
