Puneet (Ajay Devgn): Puneet is a thirty-something writer who lives with his wife and son in a cozy little apartment in Mumbai.
After years of toiling in the snaky labyrinth of the television world, he has finally got his dream break he is going to write to film! He and his family are thrilled that top stars will be mouthing his lines.
Just as he is dreaming of the riches and the glamour, the sudden and unannounced arrival of dogmatic lost unde spirals his life completely out of control.
He is forced to go against his placid and unassuming nature and devise schemes to get rid of him, further sending him into a tailspin of misery.
Now, this is one happy ending which even he is finding difficulties in scripting!
Munmun (Konkona Sen Sharma): Munmun is the twenty seven year old wife of Puneet.
She works as an interior desingner and is a sweet and accommodating person who not only places a high premium on traditional family values, but is also ambitions and career oriented.
Hence, the arrival of Chachaji places her under considerable duress and she copes with it with admirable gusto, validating the fabled multi-tasking ability of women.
But when Chachajis idiosyncrasies become unbearable, she puts her foot down and asks Puneet to get rid of him.
Chachaji (Paresh Rawal): Lamodar Bajpai (a.k.a. Chachaji) is a 65 year old man from a small village in North India who is visiting his distant newphew Puneet and his family in Mumbai.
An extermely eccentric head strong and opinionated person, he is often appalled with the ways of the modern city folks. He can be unpredictable, goofy and mercurial, but is also loving, warm and has a genuine concern for the people around him.
Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge? is the story of Puneet (Ajay Devgn) and Munmun (Konkona Sen), a happily married couple living in Mumbai whose lives take an interesting turn when a distant relative, Chachaji (Paresh Rawal) turns up unannounced at their doorstep from a far off village.
The guest overstays his welcome so much so that the exasperated couple come up with
various ploys to hasten his departure to hilarious results.
