    Autograph : Auteur's Autosuggestion

Autograph rating: 6 out of 10

    By Dipen Guha(28 Oct 2010)

Lexically, "autograph" means, an identifying mark specified by the signature of the individual himself.Though the film ends with the autograph given by the unrivalled super-star Arun Chatterjee to a boy-servant of a road-side eatery or dhaba, the larger section of the audiences may find themselves crossroaded to earmak if the autograph is of Prosenjit Arun Chatterjee or of Srijit Mukherjee, the debutant diractor, who is stated to have been profusely inspired by "Nayak", a creation by Satyajit Ray, the doyen of Indian filmdom. The judgement may prove ambivalent. But, the ... » read more

"Autograph" will encourage the soul searching

Autograph rating: 8 out of 10

We, as living beings, generally tend to go with the flow, or sometimes against it. We, as human beings, most of the times, live for the society. We , as , member of homo sepiens family, are generally made-up of genes that are selfish(read Richard Dawkin's "Selfish Genes"). There is not anything wrong with these. But, we seldom find times, when we can actually tear us apart open, and see our selves as really who we are. We always associate the term "I" with 80% sentences we speak during the day. What this"I" mean? who is this "I"? Your body, face, hands, heart, hair.these ... » read more

Autographed in style by the director and ‘Arun’

Autograph rating: 5 out of 10

    By Aditya Chakrabarty(18 Oct 2010)

Autograph has been directed by Srijit Mukherjee, an economist by education who has directed an English play called Mindgames in the past as well as directed another successful and critically acclaimed play called Feluda ‘Ferot’ based on characters from Feluda’s stories and is told from the perspective of Feluda’s arch rival Maghanlal Meghraj.

He is a huge fan of Satyajit Roy and it had been his dream all along to direct a film on the lines of Nayak which featured the superstar of Tollywood of yesteryears –Uttam Kumar. One might also say that he is the only superstar ... » read more

    "Aajker Nayak"

Autograph rating: 6 out of 10

By Chandi Mukherjee (20 Oct 2010)

Sreejit Mukherjee , the debutant director of this film , has tried to re-discover the fake world of cine-superstars like once Satyajit Ray tried in NAYAK.

The easiest way to do this is to copy and paste the entire Ray-Film. But Sreejit is an intellectual person. So he took an intellectual way . He persuaded Prosenjit Chatterjee to act in his film in the role of the protagonist of the film where Prosenjit would be able to prove that he is no less than Uttam Kumar. Listening the script Prosenjit also believed the same and probably he also believed that Sreejit was ... » read more

Not Nayak, but elegant in its own way

Autograph rating: 8 out of 10

    By kanishka dey(21 Oct 2010)

The movie "Autograph" from the very onset, has been projected as a tribute to Satyajit Ray's "Nayak".So,many may try to draw unfair comparisons between the two. But,in reality,Autograph, except its basic premise,is hardly similar to Ray's masterpiece. So, the promotional strategy must be condemned in this regard.
The story of "Autograph" goes like this.Arun Chatterjee(Prosenjit)is an esteemed actor and quite arrogant in nature.Looking for a role to showcase his star status and prowess,he decides to act and produce on the script of a budding filmmaker Subhabrata Mitra(Indraneil). The ... » read more

    Nayak Revisited

Autograph rating: 6 out of 10

By Mrs Chandra Banerjee(22 Nov 2010)

But actually it is not the same! The director has shown the present day improvisation of the story by making it more practical through its twist in story and picturising it in an unstable mode.
The acting part is not very consisting,But it could deliver the essence of the matter very well.
The film as a whole is watchable. The songs are also not that very good excepting one or two.
I would appreciate the effort of the director to present a film based on 'NAYAK' of satyajit roy which at least pull the crowd to hall to see a bengali movie which is becoming ... » read more
