Baadshah (Shahrukh Khan) is the private detective with four assistants working for him (Ram Lal (Johnny Lever), Charlie, Harpal Singh and Sudhir). They try solving small cases, but often make losses. They have no money but has to attract customers through James Bond-like gimmicks.
Baadshah is tricked by a con-man to fall in love with Seema and then break her heart. When Baadshah realises this, he relents and soon finds himself meeting Seema again in a child-kidnapping case in Goa.
At the same time a plot is being hatched by Suraj Singh Thapar (Amrish Puri), an industrialist, to assassinate Gayatri Bachchan (Rakhee), the Chief Minister of Goa. Thapar (Amrish Puri) wants her to be ‘silenced’ for his survival in the long run of competitive business dealings. The CBI send their best man, Deepak to save her life. Deepak is killed by the assassin at the Mumbai airport, and CBI office in Goa thinks Baadshah is their man.
Baadshah tries to solve both the cases, without knowing exactly what the deeper mystery is.
Seema, who hates Baadshah, for playing with her feelings, keeps upsetting his plans.
Will Baadshah be able to save the child and Gayatri Bachchan? Will he win Seema's heart?
