“Lo Ranbir Chaa Gaya….”
Romance and Yash Raj films go hand in hand. For decades Yash Raj films have given us good and different romantic films [excluding few recent ones]. Romantic films do not have to be full of emotional sentimental story or sweet dream like story. It can be mixture of all or something totally different. Bachna Ae Haseeno has everything a Yash Raj film needs Swiss Alps, romance, humour, emotions, drama and style.
Bachna Ae Haseeno is story of Raj [Ranbir Kapoor] who falls in love not once but thrice.
In his teen he meets Maahi [Minissha Lamba], a sweet fun loving romantic girl in Swiss. They both start loving each other in DDLJ way and decide to meet back in India. But due to Raj’s Childish behaviour Maahi gets heartbreak. Raj moves to Mumbai and starts a living relationship with Raadhika [Bipasha Basu], an aspiring model. Raj and his friend Sachin [Hiten Paintal] gets promoted to Australia. Raj dumps Raadhika and moves to Australia. In Australia after leading a bachelor life Raj meets Gayatri [Deepika Padukone], smart hard working independent girl and falls in true love with her. But fate has its own plan; Raj gets his own medicine when Gayatri rejects his love. That time Raj realises the role of Maahi and Raadhika in his life. Raj decides to rectify the mistakes he had done in his past by meeting Maahi and Raadhika. What happens next is to watch out for.
Music by Vishal Shekhar is great and refreshing. “Khuda Jaane”, “Aahista” “Lucky Boy” “Small town girl” “Jogi” all goes well with the mood of the film. Special mention to R.D.Burman-Kishore Kumar Remix title track, this song after decades still rocks.
Story of this film is simple yet different, but not extraordinary. Screenplay of the movie is good and pacy. First half is has lots of pace along with romance and backdrop of humour. Second half settles down on dramatic angle with a weak climax. Wonder why this movie was given such a predictable and weak climax. Movie has great locals of Swiss and Australia.
Siddharth Anand’s direction has matured a lot from his past films. His way of story telling and using the era and props is remarkable. He has used his actors perfectly suiting the role. In the last 15-20 mins his directions weakens out. Minissha and Bipasha’s love story are the best and prefect. But Deepkia’s story is weak. Even in second half the movies is good till Bipasha story and from there it looses its touch. Wished Deepika’s story was also well directed as the earlier ones, it would have worked in favour of movie.
Performance wise Ranbir Kapoor Rocks, he looks the hottest of all. His screen presence is great and so is his performance. He slips in this role very easily and once can relate with him. Minissha looks cute and has done total justice to her role. Bipasha shows her maturity as an actor in her role. Deepika looked smart but had hardly anything to offer. Hiten Paintal was humorous and wished had more role.
So….”bol meri ‘Filmi Khopdi’ is film mein kitna hain dum???”
Dum hain, Kaafi dum hai…thoda climax pe dyaan dete to dumdaar hoti. This movie has everything from Swiss Alps, Australian Beach, Romance, good music, decent story line and hot babes. But above all it has Ranbir who has a great screen presence and yes haseeno bach ke rehna kyuki…yeh lo…Ranbir Aa gaya aur Chaa Gaya.
Rating – 3.6/5 [.6 Extra Just for Ranbir and R.D.Burman-Kishore Title track]
