    Bholenath (Dilip Kumar) blind since birth leads a simple and decent life in Thakur Chandrabhan's house. His family consists of a widowed daughter-in-law Saraswati (Purnima) & a beautiful grand daughter Tara (Saira Banu). Bholenath does all the household chores in Thakur Chandrabhan's house. Tara falls in love with Bholenath & his simplicity. Tara's family has arranged her marriage with Thakur Pratap Singh (Prem Chopra) without her consent. But Pratap Singh demands a dowry of 3 lakh rupees. Chandrabhan fails to give that amount of money. Bholenath who used to save secretly from his childhood offers the money to Pratap who accepts it & then absconds. The blind Bholenath is now helpless & fights against Pratap Singh as far as he can but soon he is unable to pursue him due to a snake bite. But he soon he regains his vision & sets forth for Bombay to locate Pratap. After a few weeks Bholenath returns home and finds that Tara is not ready to marry anyone other than him. Tara sees a change in the Bholenath with vision. Even Bholenath starts calling her "Tara instead of "Chotte Malkin". The family also consents to the marriage but on the day of the wedding the police come for Bholenath with the allegation murdering a dancer, Lucy for money. Did Bholenath really do such a thing?
