Expectations are just a bad point to pick up for telling as it's the most expected Bengali movie ever to be released. After the super success of "Autograph", people's expectations level just got much higher for another Srijit Mukherji directorial. 22 she shrabon somehow caught a very higher position in Bengali movies releasing. It was expected to be great by many people who were never interested in watching a Bengali movie. 22 she Shrabon took a tornado type starting and every person praised of this movie. By the way, the soundtrack of this movie is a rage in itself. Composed by Anupam Roy, every song of this movie is individually awesome.
Kolkata is a city of Art, Literature, Individuality & Violence. Here strikes a Serial Killer who kills people on death dates of many famous poets like Jibonanda Das, Sukanta Bhattacharya etc. Inspector Avijit (Parmbrata) is after this serial killer who has put Kolkata in terror. A poet Niranjan(Goutam Ghosh) seeks for a person who can understand his poets. Two Reporters Amrita (Raima Sen) & Surjo (Abir Chatterjee) seeks for news about serial killing. Avijit's senior Srivastava (Rajesh Sharma) finally decides to convince Prabir Roy Choudhury (Prosenjit Chatterjee), a genius, arrogant, suspended Cop to take the case of serial killing. What happens next is what Baishe Shrabon is all about.
Last time I saw a movie like this type was MAHANAGAR @ KOLKATA which also focused on the robust part of Kolkata. But Baishe Shrabon is poetic as well. It focuses on nearly everything what Kolkata consists of. From prostitutes, poet, poetry to slang & terror, everything is individually treated well in this movie. Nearly every dialog of the movie consists Bengali slang, every example given is of bad meaning but still behind all of this dirty things, there's an awesome movie lying which can easily make its place in best Bengali movies ever released.
How fantastic & amazing work is gripped by Srijit Mukherji, the director is already known by us after watching "AUTOGRAPH". This time Story, Screenplay, Dialogues & Direction - everything was handled by him and oh my God! he is a tornado. If Baishe Shrabon defines Srijit Mukherji, then he's the most talented filmmaker of recent times. He neither has composed a sissy-full of songs-full of dance romantic or action movies nor a very hard to understand-novel adapted realistic movies ever in his career. He composes such a certain type of movie that is smart, sleek, sharp, sensible, REAL (not realistic). He's undoubtedly the best filmmaker since Satyajit Roy has departed. Hats off!
Anupam Roy's composed master-blaster soundtrack is just one of the reasons why this movie is the best. "GOBHEERE JAO", "EKBAR BOL" & "EI SHRABON" are the master tracks. The way Soumik Halder captured Kolkata on screen, this one is the finest work of his career. Ananda Addhya's art direction was fine. Bodhaditya Banerjee's editing was awesome.
Prosenjit Chatterjee is the best actor in Tollywood after Uttam Kumar, Baishe Shrabon proves it. Take my words, every award of 'Best Actor' of this year will be bagged by Prosenjit Chatterjee for sure. This one is surely the best work by Prosenjit Chatterjee so far. All the slang he gave, all the arrogance he showed, all the dialogues he threw, all the acting he did - was the best and totally unexpected to the viewers who have been watching Bengali movies for a long time. The second person who did a commendable job was Goutam Ghosh. He's not a veteran actor but he showed up like that. His role was a mentally sick poet who finds truth in poetry words. But Goutam Ghosh fitted himself very easily in the role and that is where is the best. It was very hard to act in that role especially for a debutant like him, but Goutam Ghosh never made us feel that. The third main character of the movie, Parambrata Chatterjee also gave the best performance of his lifetime so far. He was so good as a cop that one will feel 'why doesn't he do roles like these?'. Abir Chatterjee was a gem. He gave the best of him in his ultra-short role. Raima Sen was somehow unimportant and showed nothing different. Rajesh Sharma was OK.
P.S. - Srijit in a cameo was the part of some laughs when Avijit & Prabir took his laptop for investigation.
On The whole, one would be truly amazed watching 'Baishe Shrabon' and think 'This movie is so good, is it really a bengali movie?'. Filled with Strong Story, Script, Performances & hard-rock dialogues, Baishe Shrabon is a movie that deserves it's place in 'Most Wonderful Bengali Movies Ever Existed'. To me, this was the best Bengali I've ever seen & the most rated & liked Bengali movie by me. Films like these are like comets that come after a long time and gives people the joy of viewing. It's the best made movie till date after Satyajit Roy made his last one. Final Word : It's not a must watch, it's a must experience.
