Already the message board is full of praise for this story of serial killer & ensuing mystery!Well,Srijit seems to have hit the bull's eye once again,a commercial sucess for the film seems to be on the cards. The setting for a perfect mystery thriller, with low-key lighting,a film noir treatment, gripping montage of torture & death, cruelty & horror,& with the unique stamp of poetry as a signature of death,'22she srabon'has a promising start, though in the end it fails to keep upto that promise for mainly two reasons, lack of the number of suspects (isn't it a must for any crime thriller to test the i.q. & play the inevitable cat & mouse game with the viewer,or the sleuth, for that reason?,think of 'Chiriakhana',or even 'Joy baba felunath'),& the sub plot involving the off & onn romance & the subtle triangular love story in between,it doesn't help the story in anyway, inspite of the glossy, innovatively picturised song sequences, where even Godardian jump cut has been cleverly employed! It got too much in the way at times, even a song was incorporated in between the final murder on the bridge that took the steam off the entire episode,if that was intended for some interim relief then that missed the mark entirely, not so for the witty , sarcastic one liners of Prosenjit, timed to perfection, that did more than half of the job,the rest was simply not required for that purpose. The climax definitely lacked that gripping suspense, though saved by the unique camera work showing the departure of the tortured guilt ridden soul & Prosenjit's finely balanced act, from a total washout & ironically Rupankar's creditable rendition of the song 'Gobhire jao'...Casting is good, dialogues are crisp, incisive as well as comic & light hearted, applaudable no doubt, personally i would like to mention of that particular scene where in the middle of the night the poet Nibaran recites his own poetry to another lonely fellow on a deserted railway station, sitting face to face on two opposite platforms, both resigned to their fate, yet not losing hope, masterly done. All in all,a promising endeavour, beyond doubt !
