The best since Joy Baba Felunath

Baishe Srabon rating: 10 out of 10

    By Abhishek Mukherjee(02 Oct 2011)

I was two when Joy Baba Felunath (in the spelling of which, incidentally, they had used F for Felunath, not PH) had released. Thanks to Doordarshan, I have watched the movie something like 932 times. Or at least it seems so. I have seen Shonar Kella a lot more.

Why, then, do I watch re-runs of these two movies time and again? Why do they show these two movies this frequently? Well, it's because I love thrillers, and our language, however rich, has not provided thrillers comparable to these two.

This means that there was a barren era since 1979, with occasional ... » read more

    Pride Of Bengali Movies

Baishe Srabon rating: 9 out of 10

    By Somak Basu(02 Oct 2011)

Expectations are just a bad point to pick up for telling as it's the most expected Bengali movie ever to be released. After the super success of "Autograph", people's expectations level just got much higher for another Srijit Mukherji directorial. 22 she shrabon somehow caught a very higher position in Bengali movies releasing. It was expected to be great by many people who were never interested in watching a Bengali movie. 22 she Shrabon took a tornado type starting and every person praised of this movie. By the way, the soundtrack of this movie is a rage in itself. Composed ... » read more

22she srabon: good but not great

Baishe Srabon rating: 6 out of 10

    By Debarun Chatterjee(04 Oct 2011)

Already the message board is full of praise for this story of serial killer & ensuing mystery!Well,Srijit seems to have hit the bull's eye once again,a commercial sucess for the film seems to be on the cards. The setting for a perfect mystery thriller, with low-key lighting,a film noir treatment, gripping montage of torture & death, cruelty & horror,& with the unique stamp of poetry as a signature of death,'22she srabon'has a promising start, though in the end it fails to keep upto that promise for mainly two reasons, lack of the number of suspects (isn't it a must for any crime ... » read more

    A pleasant drizzle, this Srabon!

Baishe Srabon rating: 6 out of 10

By Paromeeta Mathur Banerjee(01 Oct 2011)

I was really looking forward to 22she Srabon. With an inteligent director like Srijit at the helm, a super starcast, some exquisite music and a promising storyline in the much anticipated form of a 'Who-Dun-It' chase after a serial killer, it was set with all the ingredients that make a good film.

The promos looked really good and we made sure that we got tickets for the night show of the film on its first day of release. For a first day night show scenario the crowd turnout was also quite promising.

Without much further ado, let me get to the review.

    Baishe Srabon.

Rabindranath Tagore's death anniversary and Rhiju's (Srijit Mukherji) second child. (That's how he refers to his movies) The title and here's how I had painted it: (This was way back in February or much before that, when the director revealed about the conception. And the fact that he secretly have named it "Baishe Srabon")
The death anniversary of an icon. Death. Demise. Dark. Violence. Poetry. Song. Music. Rain. Kolkata.

And then came the USG reports, and the first look of the baby. The trailer. Left me awestruck. And I knew, if it ... » read more

    Get drenched in this Srabon

Baishe Srabon rating: 8 out of 10

    By Swati Chatterjee(01 Oct 2011)

Baishey Srabon is perhaps the most aniticipated and marketed film in Bengali cinema in 2011, if not of this decade. Thanks to a monumental success of Autograph, the combination of Director Srijit Mukherji - Actor Prosenjit Chatterjee - Composer Anupam Roy - Sree Venkatesh sure caught the public frenzy. And why not? Mesmerizing songs, slick promos, non-stop media coverage, and the Durga Puja made Baishe Srabon a HIT even before its release in theaters. The question that i had in mind whether the film will be able to deliver purely from a cinematic point of view. the answer ... » read more

Death of Poetry and a Deadly 'System'

Baishe Srabon rating: 0 out of 10

    By Kaustav Bakshi(07 Oct 2011)

It’s extremely difficult to review a thriller, for you often tend to give out the plot, which, of course, is commercially murderous for the film. Srijit Mukherjee’s Baishe Shrabon is primarily a thriller, but it is much more than that. The very title of the film, I believe, underscores the hegemony of the poet who has of late become so literally omnipresent (thanks to the farce the new government has made of him) that all other Bengali poets have been swept into oblivion. Sukanta, Sukumar, Binay, Shakti, Joy Goswami, and others are still esoteric property while Tagore ... » read more

Baishey Srabon : a Macabre Masterpiece

Baishe Srabon rating: 10 out of 10

By Subhayan Guha (02 Oct 2011)

Srijit Mukherjee is back, and how!! After he wowed us in “Autograph”, He Does it again with 22 Shey Srabon. This time it’s a thriller and it seems he has done it much better this time.
The story is original at best. There is a poetic serial killer at large in Kolkata, who has already committed four murders (the brilliant opening scene shows him committing one) leaving lines of Bengali poetry as signatures.Clueless about where to start the investigation, rookie Cop Avijit (Parambrata) seeks help of a troubled and suspended Veteran Prabir (Prosenjit). And ultimately solves ... » read more
