My Rating

  • Balukabela was enough, why dot com? rating: 0 out of 10(Aditya Chakrabarty wrote on 19 Dec 2012) is a rom com starring Rahul, Rudranil, Aviraj, Saswata Chatterjee, Payel Roy, Paran Banerjee, Sudipa Basu and others . Though the posters might make it seem like a rib tickling comedy or maybe even a sex comedy, however it is nothing of the sort. It is definitely a comedy and starts off in a manner as the posters expect us to believe , but then takes a down turn.

The film is essentially about four friends-Rabin, Atanu, Arijit and Sayan who come to Puri to spend a few holidays. After landing up at Balukabela(the hotel where they are staying), they run into a group of four girls who have come with their professor from college. While initially both parties can’t stand each other, however later on each of the friends start liking a girl each from the group. To make things worse, a servant of the hotel resembles Rabin and there is case of a mistaken identity. There is also a couple staying at the hotel who come to spend a few days having lied to their boss who is a crazy lawyer who finds poetry in every single line in life. After a few sub plots (which include the friends turning out to be ‘criminals’ as they had been falsely accused in a case) and then a few apologies later , all’s well that ends well. That includes the crazy lawyer (who had turned up at Puri as well) turning over a new leaf and even deciding on marrying. Even the two elderly love birds played by Paran Banerjee and Sudipa Basu express their love for each other .

The film is a nice little entertainer thanks to the performances of the entire cast who act well. That includes a cameo from Bratya who plays Subhankar who can’t forget his wife who has left him for another person and has become sort of eccentric. The only weak performances are from the group of new girls in the film barring Payel Roy(of Charulata fame) who are not at all up to the mark and the voices of two of them in fact have been dubbed. Payel Roy after Chupkatha again shows her maturity as an actress. The music of the film is quite interesting and the line up of singers in the film is quite huge. Raja Narayan Deb has again been able to do justice to his musical talent after Bhooter Bhabishyat. One however fails to understand why the film had to have a name like ‘’, it could have been just ‘Balukabela’.
