Bankim Ghosh was born on 22nd October, 1922 in Kolkata. He passed Matriculation from Oriental Academy. He completed his B.Com. from City College in 1938. He had major problems with his father for his desire to pursue acting as a profession and he had to leave his house for that. He was a fitness freak and football lover. He had achieved the great feat of winning the Bengal Boxing Championship for five years in a row. He had worked with several places in the early part of his career like in Grindlays and Company, in Jadavpur University, in Indian Airlines, Kolkata and in High Court.
Director Hemen Gupta was his neighbour which earned him a role in his film “Bhuli Nai” in 1947. After a long gap, he was again seen in the lead role in “Delhi Theke Kolkata” by Sushil Ghosh In 1961. Golpo Holeo Sotti (1966), Jibon Mrityu (1967), Arogya Niketan (1969) , Matir Sarga (1982) gave him enormous fame as an actor. Like some other distinguished actors of his time Bankim ghose had the privilege of working with the great directors like Tapan Sinha,Satyjit Ray and others. Like other notable actors, his acting career had also started from theatre. He used to work for Ananda Bharati , Bharatiya Gananatya Sangha, Rupkar and Anandolok. He also became a distinguished stage artist.
He was truly a social activist. He was involved with an association named Jatiyo Sangha and used to look after the well being of children. He passed away on 3rd June, 1992
