Expectations: When barfi-the first silent movie of india was introduced, the expectations with its music were very high. And then pritam's inclusion was its high point. He has been really on top with his performances this year. The two songs released earlier were appereciated a lot by all ! So, let's see is this another masterpiece?
'Ala barfi' (Mohit chauhan): 'Ala barfi' describes the character of Ranbir Kapoor (murphy aka barfi). The song is cheeky as ranbir. Suits him the best. The most enjoyable part of the song are phrases when Mohit recites "gurg grug gurg" ,"fus fus fus" and more. Even the birth story of murphy in second stanza like "radio on hua, amma off hui" and "munna mute hi aanso bhaye" are just Saucy and Impudent. Might be "masakali" and "jo bi main" award winning moment for mohit yet again. Pritam is now perfectionist in his work. It is an ear-pleasing blend of accordion and shakers. There is not point getting bored at any moment. "A DELIGHTFUL BRAFI"
'main kya karoon' (Nikhil Paul G)
Then comes in a song with a raw and fresh feel Main kya karoon with vocals by Nikhil Paul G. The hummable mush melody is an all and all Nikhil song. It's a track you would like to hear in loop. Fall in love and feel how good this song sounds. Pure lyrics written with taste of romanticism. Pritam experiments with some hasty and deliberate tunes in between that are quite effective! [A must-listen song!]
'Kyon' (Papon and sunidhi chauhan):
After brilliant "jiyen kyun" (Dum maaro Dum), pritam brings papon for
'kyon'. Picturised on Ranbir and Priyanka, kyon takes you tovards the magical world full of joy and happiness. Another brilliant composition by Pritam. Masterly usage of musical enhancements at every instant gives life to this beautiful 'kyon'. [A good track!]
'Phir le aaye-Reprise' (Arjit Singh):
A newly created ghazal typo by pritam. Well this song will really delight you. A perfect song for all slow- paced listners. Really after 'kaise kahen alvida' (Yeh saali zindagi), we hear 'phir le aaya dil', a new-age ghazal. Arjit singh's vocals are very numerating. Besides a perfect music usage like-wise delivers you newly created 'phir le aaye'. The tempo carries you on and on! [Lyrics are memorable].
'Aashiyan' (Shreya Ghoshal and Nikhil Paul George):
Aashiyan is fully a picturisation dependable song. Shreya and Nikhil have sung this song very much likeable as per requirement. However,a beautiful and sweet composition. 'Aashiyan' will remind you of those old genre tracks! Pritam's hold of metric units is just awesome! And more after that the improvisation of harmonic and rhythm is just admireable. A joyful track of the album that is pleasant to listen to! [A full-marks track!]
'Saawli si Raat' (Arjit Singh):
A philosophical nature resides in the song's message. The song is livened by vocals of Arjit Singh while pritam unifies the voice with melodies of the piano well coordinated with the violin, soft drums and some tunes. A Smooth ,Simple and easy on the ears, music blending well with his voice. [A Loveable Romantic track of the album!]
'Ala Barfi-Version 2' (Swanand Kirkre):
As per my guess this track will be used at the closing cermony of the movie. Though a nice experiment with the music of original track. Lyrics are almost same. Well still acceptable! However,i liked Mohit's version.
'Phir le aaya' (Rekha Bharadwaj):
After the most successfull 'Ab mukhe koi'(Ishqiya) by rekha bharadwaj, the soulful voice of indian cinema is back. Rekha's phenomenal vocals transports one to a surreal world. Another version of Arjit's reprise. This one is favourite one. A safe closing!
Overall, Barfi is Impressive. Its a Barfi of sweetness and variety! Sensible lyrics, excellent delivery by a range of soulful singers are its high points. Hope the movie does same too!
My Favourites: 'Main kya karron', 'ala barfi','phir le aaya' (rekha's version), 'Saawli si raat'.
