Barfi! is not just a movie, its a cinematic journey. It makes you fall in love with Cinema. It is simple and innocent.
The movie has one of the most innovative starting credits. With a song playing in the background which asks the audience to switch off their mobiles, keep children in check and surrender to the movie.
Now getting into more details. Illeana D'Cruz as Shruti is the narrator of the movie, tells us the story of an eternally happy person, with the name Murphy, or as he himself pronounces it Barfi. Now Ranbir Kapoor as Barfi is refreshing, believable and doesnt let the character fall prey to the stereotypes. Finally, Priyanka as Jhilmil plays the character of an autistic person, form the three leads of the movie. The movie follows Barfi's life and how each character adds in into his life.
Saurabh Shukla as the inspector is as brilliant as supporting casts get. The movie has a brilliant chase scene between Saurabh Shukla and Barfi which entices quite a few laugh and is very Charlie Chaplinesque, in the way it has been pictured. Very innocent and very heart warming. Roopa Ganguly as Illeana's mother plays a very restrained self and does a brilliant job at that. But above all its Ranbir Kapoor who shadows everyone with his brilliant display of Barfi, he is one actor who is scaling heights with every movie.
Despite all these brilliance in the movie, the movie fails at a few places. Especially the screen play and a kidnapping subplot which makes this simple movie slightly complex.
The songs are good and brilliantly placed in the movie, which doesnt hurdle the flow of the movie. Darjeeling has been brilliantly shot and so has been Kolkata.
The movie is simple and innocent journey. So please go and watch it and dont fall prey to the devil of reviewing it! Enjoy the ride... A must watch.
