Bade Thakur (Shammi Kapoor) & Maa Saheb (Asha Parekh) have three sons Vikram Singh (Vinod Khanna), Devan (Vijendra Ghatge) & Rajendra (Mohsin Khan). Vikram though eldest is unmarried but loves Roopa (Amrita Singh). Despite being a Thakur has a low caste Chaudhry Sumer Singh (Dharmendra) as his friend. Devan is not ready to accept the protests from the farmers & wants to empower them by making them sign agreements with help of Sarpanch Laakhiya (Kulbhushan Kharbanda). A farmer Laakhan (Amrit Pal) raises his voice against it & other farmers like Sukhchain (Ram Mohan) support him. A fight takes place between them & the basti people kill Thakur Devan. Vikram gets angry & the next day he kills majority of the men of the basti including Laakhan. Laakhan's sister shouts at her lover Sumer. Sumer gets emotional looking at Jinna's (Dimple Kapadia) situation & decides to stand against his own friend Vikram. Vikram & Sumer join dacoits Shakti Singh (Bharat Kapoor) & Kalla (Avatar Gill) respectively & promise to finish one another. Inspector Hanumant Singh (Amrish Puri) is happy with going on but his Senior Rajan though from Thakur's family doesn't like people going against the law and order. Who will win the battle, law abiding rajan or blood thirsty dacoits? Was the friendship of Sumer & Vikram so weak to get split on grounds of power & revenge?
