Beena Banerjee popularly known as Beena is a Hindi film actress who is mostly known for the character roles that she plays.

She started her career in 1982 with lesser known films like Ayaash by Shakti Samanta, follwed by Jaagir and Andar Baahar in 1984. Out of these the latter two were fairly successful.

She played Dr Asha Mathur in the Subhash Ghai film Meri Jung (1985), which got her attention. After this Yateem and Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak were her most notable films. In 1990 she did a few roles in films that were successful at the box-office. These included Deewana Mujhsa Nahi, Lekin, Thanedaar and Baaghi. In all these films she played the lead actor’s mother. Few of her other memorable performances are in Khuda Gawah, Afsana Pyaar Ka and Khiladi. Here again except for Khiladi wherein she played Akshay Kumar’s sister in law she played mother to Nagarjuna and Aaamir Khan respectively.

She played mother to Shah Rukh Khan in Anjaam (1994). Though Shah Rukh’s performance was appreciated in the film, it didn’t do much at the box-office. She did a lot of films in the 90’s which didn’t click with the audiences. However, since she appeared in several movies she became a known face amongst avid Hindi movie watchers. Her recent releases include Baabul (2006) and Viruddh (2005) both Amitabh Bachchan starrers. She also played Preity Zinta’s mother in the super hit film Koi Mil Gaya.

She is the daughter of famous yesteryear actor Pradeep.
