Best Friends are people who are special in your life. They are someone who is close to you, who you go to, with whom you share your joy and happiness and your darkest secrets. They are indispensable in your life.
Swapan Saha’s latest film Best Friends perhaps indicates something on those lines. It is about the three friends Piku, Konko and Raj who are the best of friends. Nothing can separate them specially Raj and Konko.Raj falls in love with a girl called Preeti due to circumstances but Preety doesn’t like him so much.Konko also doesn’t like Preety at all.
However they get married later though Konko is against the marriage. To Raj, Konko is the dearest person on this earth. Later on Preeti discovers a very dark truth that Raj had been indirectly responsible for the death of Konko’s younger brother years back which Konko is not aware of. When he comes to know the truth, he confronts Raja and hell breaks loose.
More drama follows.Konko goes away and while Raj tries to persuade Konko to change his mind (he is supposed to get married to Raj’s younger sister whom he had saved from drowning years back), he falls from a cliff and is taken to be dead.5 years pass.Konko has become a cop and he receives a letter one day from Piku asking him to go and visit Raj’s parents.Konko turns up there with Piku and is shocked to see Raj who has lost his speech and memory. Certain incidents occur which makes Raj get up on his feet and get back his memory!
The problem with Swapan Saha that the Man with the Midas touch has simply lost it. He, who was like a movie moghul in Tollywood remained so as long as Prasenjit appeared in his films and they were a super hit team. Things started to go on a downslide when lesser known actors and later on complete new faces started appearing in his films. They were much less entertaining, lacked certain elements and they were not potboilers, something for which he is known for. Regarding this film, the performances are far from satisfying save newcomer Arya who is pretty good. More and more angles have been added to the story to make it dramatic, but somehow all the factors don’t add up to make a good film or even a concrete plot. It is very patchy. The songs are also not upto the mark.Sujoy is someone we have seen in a couple of films before, but TV actor Mainak doesn’t seem to have too many expressions on his face.
