The story deals with two kinds of disagreements. On one hand it reveals the age old conflict between individual and state, while on nthe other hand it reveals the disparity between tradition and modernism. Kalicharan (Pradip), son of irresponsible modern parents has no family support after his grandmother expires. Mutual divorce of his parents even takes his shelter away. Finding no other option he chooses to run for away from civilized society. The story is mainly about his struggle to initiate a new order on earth where liberty comes with responsibility. The story primarily focuses on reasons that divert a man away from a healthy life and finally helps to redirect him towards a normal existence. As Pradip departs from civilized society he leaves behind a friend (Nilima) who promises him an eduring relationship. Life moves on and both friends grow up in dissimilar environments and as a result both have very different viewpoints regarding society and its institutions. But the thing that remains alike is the unconditional love of childhood friendship. Nilima Sen becomes a police officer where as Pradip turns out an anti-social, Kalicharan. The initial enemity switches to affection when they come to know that they are estranged childhood friends. The story clears the air of bitterness in the relationship between Nilima (representatives of institution) and Kalicharan (a bereft individual) and the story reaches its climax when Kalicharan surrenders to the social order.
