The story is based 500 years ago in Nabadwip, a village in Bengal. The village is ruled by Hindu Brahmins. All rituals are for the rich and the poor low caste villagers are neglected and oppressed by the brahmins. The Nawab of Bengal also favours the brahmins. Jagannath and Madhav are two brothers who torture the poor villagers. The Baishnavs (a sect of Hinduism) also live in nabadwip and they too are scared of the two brothers. Nimai the famous young pundit of Nawadwip avoids both the groups, the brahmins and baishnavs. Nimai lives with his widow mother and his second wife, Bishnupriya. Both groups want him in their team but they are scared of his personality. In the meantime Nityannada, a devotee of Shrikrishna Nityananda , comes to Nabadwip and joins with the baishnavs. He starts a revolution and embraces the untouchable hindu baishnavs. He attracts Nimai who joins him. The Nawab of Bengal declares injunction on kirtans (devotional songs). Nimai and Nitai (Nityananda) come to Jagannath and Madhav. The brothers becove devotees of Nimai and Nitai. Nimai leaves Nabadwip to pursue Sanyas and becomes Sri Krishna Chaitanya.
