The story is based 500 years ago in Nabadwip, a village in Bengal. The village is ruled by Hindu Brahmins. All rituals are for the rich and the poor low caste villagers are neglected and oppressed by the brahmins. The Nawab of Bengal also favours the brahmins. Jagannath and Madhav are two brothers who torture the poor villagers. The Baishnavs (a sect of Hinduism) also live in nabadwip and they too are scared of the two brothers.
