    Bhanu Banerjee is a legendary comedian of Bengali Cinema admired by all movie lovers.

    Bhanu Banerjee was born on 26th August , 1920 in Bikrampur Pachgaon of Dhaka. His real name was Samyamoy who later made Bhanu as his screen name. He passed I.A. from Jagannath College, Dhaka. Later, he took admission in Dhaka University but got involved in Swadeshi Movement. In 1941, he had to leave Dhaka and sought refuge in his sisters place in Kolkata. He used to work in Iron and Steel Control . In 1946, he got married to singer Nilima Devi and had two sons and one daughter.

    During that period of turmoil in his life , he acted as Chanakya in the play “Chandragupta” in his locality. His performance impressed Dr.Bhujanga Bandopadhay who introduced him to director Bibhuti Chakraborty . Thus, he got his first break in the movie “Jagoran” . But his first released movie was “Ja Hoi Na” in 1949. He was probably the only actor in the world of films who was fortunate enough to work in two movies named after him “ Bhanu Pelo Lottery” and “ Bhanu Goyenda, Jahar Assistant”. Both the movies brought him name and fame. Jomaloye Jibonto Manush (1958), Kanchanmulya(1961), Dadathakur(1962), Asite Asio Na(1967) , Baghini (1968) , Ek je Chilo Desh (1977) are some of the memorable movies where he excelled as great actor.. He had worked as a director and producer. He had formed a yatra group named Sushil Natya Company. He had performed in several cultural programs and comic shows in radio. He had even written two books on humour. He was the President of Abhinetri Sangha.‘Lekhalikhi’, published by Aajkaal and was written by Bhanu himself. This great legend passed away on 4th March, 1983.
