Bheja Fry 2 rating: 3 out of 10(Divya Solgama wrote on 17 Jun 2011)

There's a typical dialogs in most of Hindi Movies- “Paise Se Duniya Ka Sukh Nahin Milta”. I am sure film makers like Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Basu Chatterjee, Shyam Benegal, Gulzar and many more will agree to it. As these makers have made their films without keeping the glam gloss in their mind and concentrating to their content. Many times small films made in out Hindi Cinema have managed to make their mark thanks to its quality. Bheja Fry was one such film, made on the experimental manner with very small budget and was quite successful in terms of money making and most important a good film. We know it was inspired by a foreign film, but thanks to its indianization, dialogs and Vinay Pathak’s performance the film entered in top list of comedy films from India. Now after few years the director-actor team comes back with its Sequel, let’s find out if it has the same magic or more or maybe not at all.

“Bheja Fry 2” is story of Bharat Bhushan the simpleton who wins a prize to a cruise due to his talent. Out there he meets a business magnet Ajit Talwar {K.K Menon} who is stressed due to his tax related problems. Ajit is a materialistic, womanizer person who does everything for himself. To escape the tax tensions and get close to Ranjini {Minisha Lamba} who is organizer o the show which Bharat Bhushan won, Ajit joins the cruise. Out there he comes to know that Bharat Bhushan is from Income Tax department and thus tries to be over friendly with him, despite of hating his style and nature. Ajit and his friends decide to push Bharat Bhushan in deep sea, but due to some good up ends up on an island with him. What happens next is the entire film about.

Story is fine and better if compared with the original inspired plot. But fails miserably on the screenplay and dialog part. There were many situations which could have been funny, but the makers did not do anything to make us laugh out there. Even in the scenes which were intended to be funny, the humor was missing in the most. Still the film has some enjoyable moment s like Bharat Bhushan at the game, Suresh Menon and Vinay pathak fight scenes, Bharat Bhushan meeting everyone on the ship, Bharat Bhushan – Ranjini bonding scenes, Bharat Bhushan singing Marathi songs, Two minute promise at the island, Vicco Turmeric usage, Underwear help, Dard E Dil English version, Amol asking Vinay to sing songs. Despite these scenes there were many scenes which could have been funny, but were just flat as the thin road. Also the half baked characters spoil the fun. Humor is there, but only in parts and in comparison to the original is bland as diet food. Camera work is ok.

Director Sagar Ballary made a fantastic product with the original of this film, where the budget was bare minimum. But out here he had budget, good actors, locations etc, but the soul of the film was missing. He should have used the optimum potential of his lead character Bharat Bhushan, which he dint. It’s easy to make a remake or copy, but when it comes to original stuff “Acche Accho Ko Naani Yaad Aa Jaati Hai”.

Vinay Pathak is totally in his character and is probably the best in the entire film. Still one does miss his dialogs like “its Ringing” or him opening his bag with suspicious looks, Showing his scrap book to all and many more points. K.K Menon was fine, but nothing in comparison with Rajat Kapoor. The frustration was there only for namesake. Suresh Menon is superb in his small role, so is Amole Gupte. Minisha Lamba, Ruksaar, Aditi and others are wasted in half baked roles.

So bol meri ‘Filmi Khopdi’ is film mein kitna hai dum?

Dum hai thoda bahut dum hai, but in compared to the first part, the film fails on a high note. Still if you love the first part, Bharat Bhushan character; the film might be a onetime watch. But lacking the punch, Humor and most important the funny antics of the idiot Bharat Bhushan. In one line I would say the film is like that food dish which you want to eat when you are damn hungry and at time of eating you come to know that its ‘Kaccha Pakka’. The ‘Pakka’ moments make you to eat more only to end up disappointing by the ‘Kaccha’ moments.
