Dibakar, son of a zamindar, failed three times in his school leaving examination. He is wary of educated women. So when his younger brother Nishakar comes with a proposal of marriage with a school-pass girl, he runs away to his sister's place at Allahabad. But man proposes, god disposes. At his sister's place in the 'prabasi sammelan' he had to play the sitar with Juthika's son. Juthika was his brother-in-law's student and was a masters degree holder. Without knowing her educational background Dibakar falls in love with Juthika and comes to know from his sister that they had also decided for a marriage between him and Juthika. Dibakar immediately agrees to their proposal just to save himself from Nishakar's matric-passed candidate. But on his way back home Dibakar comes to know the truth. When he asked Juthika why she had not told it earlier, Juthika replies that her MA degree had no value in comparison to Dibakar's love. But after this Juthika feels that a distance has alreday been created between her and Dibakar. Dibakar starts believing that he is small in every aspect. Juthika on the other hand tries to be a better house-wife and starts spending more and more time in worshipping Gobindji. But Juthika cannot understand why Dibakar suddenly starts tuitioning uneducated Shibani. Dibakar's attitude shocks her. She gives her consent to Dibakar and Shibani's wedding and leaves the place. At the end Dibakar realises what sacrifice a educated girl did for him.
