    Bikash Roy is a legendary actor of Bengali Film Industry who is remembered even today for his talent.

    Bikash Roy (born 16th May 1916) passed his Matriculation from Mitra Institution in 1932. He also finished B.A. from Presidency College . In 1941, he also cleared B.L. He was a famous lawyer who worked in Alipore Court and had even worked in Civil Defence. In 1932, he joined as a radio artist and was an employee of Signet Press. In 1938 , he got married and had one son and daughter.

    While working in Radio, he met director Jyotirmoy Roy and later made his acting debut in his film “ Abhijatri” in 1936. Bhooli Nai (1948), Beyallish (1951), Ratnadeep (1951) , Prafulla (1954), Chhele Kar (1954), Jeebon Trishna (1957), Uttar Falguni (1963), Jotugriha(1964), Abhoya Srikanta (1965), Arogya Niketan (1969) established him as an actor of high repute in the industry. His negative role in Beyallish was portrayed so efficiently by him that his son had thrown shoes in the cinema screen seeing the character played by his father. This is a rare incident which happen in any actor’s life. He had even directed and produced some films. In 1985, he announced his retirement from the film industry.

    Bikash Roy himself had written four books on acting. Among them, 'Mowney Porey" by him (published by Karuna Prakashani ) is noteworthy. Bikash Roy passed away on 16th April 1987.
