"BILLU ko BARBER na Kehna .. "
The Khan Jodi [Shah Rukh and Gauri] did an amazing job to give the movie its 'much wanted' preview hype by smoking the 'naming' controversy. ha ha what an amazing way to earn some brownie points for a mileage.....
Of late [splly after Hera Pheris and Hulchuls] i have had a lot of expectations from Mr Priyadarshan and thats primarily and mostly why i chose to go watch this movie at a theater and not for the hyped brand name called -Shah Rukh. Theres nothing very remarkable that i call recall just now except for the fact that Irrfan Khan excels (or so tries to) in whatever little is offered to him in terms of a plot and a screenplay. The dialogues are NOT upto the mark and the Director gets puzzled between making a comedy and a Krishna Sudaama saga of friendship! well- when a superstar pops in at the nth moment and very melodramatically turns out to be your best-est buddy from school- the fact becomes a little too hard to digest !! Theres no mention or recap of this unique bond in the prime hours of the movie -- Somewhere i felt - is this movie directed by Shah Rukh himself or Mr Priyadarshan was merely a puppet in his hands ? well- for me, as a Priyadarshan movie lover - This is not THE film...
Pritam does a commendable job with songs like Marjaani, Love mera Hit Hit etc. Soham is good in Khudaya Khair and Billu Bhayankar is Ok. As for Mr Khan- this primary technique of pitching in some high scoring ramp walking model actresses to add a jhaTka here and a Matka there for sheer publicity- This trick wont last long-- maybe it worked for Om Shanti Om and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi but it wont work forever !! So there !!!!
Rajpal Yadav falls short and cheap in absence of witty dialogues.. Lara Dutta as Billu's wife is amazing in this film, i quite liked her in the film. It would be unjust if i dnt mention the two kids of Billu. Gawd! they were cute- who would say that children cannot emote ? The few characters of Rashika Joshi, Manoj Joshi and Asrani also perform in their tight boundaries..
However-There is one particular hilarious moment in the film when someone called this Chaubey (cant remember his screen name now) is asked to deliver a few dialogues to Sahir Khan in a filmy situation- mann, i was literally rolling on the floor. As always, Shah Rukh does a good job on comedy!
BUT, the last 30 minutes were tiresome or shall i say over-the-top melodramatic [well Shah Rukh tops this list ;) ] At the fag end- No matter how hard or how miserably the director wanted to convey a message of undying and unconditional friendship- BILLU na bana Dost, na bana Barber aur na bana Comedian!
Billu Bechaara- Kismat ka Maara.. :-(
