Bilwamangal, a handsome young man likes to write poetry & sing songs. His father, a zamindar once is now old & sick. All his property has been mortgaged to Nilodhwaj Maha Shreshthi. Bilwamangal comes to Natiapara with his friend. They cannot enter into the house of Nati Chintamoni, but listens to her sweet songs from outside. Bilwa falls in love with her and starts living with her. This creates a furore in the society. His father dies of shock. Maha Shreshthi takes their all property. He threatens Chintamoni as he wants to capture her, to kill Bilwa. Bilwamangal, just after the funeral rituals comes to Chinta. It's a rainy dark night and Bilwa cannot find any boatman. So he jumps & swims upto Chintamoni's place. Chintamoni throws him out. Bilwa starts to travel & sing. He chants songs on the beauty of Lord Krishna, instead of the beauty of Chintamoni. He feels that it is his physical self that is yearning for carnal love, and out of repentence, he blinds himself with hair pins. Maha Shreshthi tries to rape Chintamoni, Chintamoni escapes from her house & travels in search of Bilwa. She comes to Brindaban in a boat. She meets a child who saves Bilwa and takes him to Brindaban and Bilwa recognises him as the Lord Krishna. Bilwa is now a changed person and his thirst for the female body is now replaced by love for the lord. He meets Chinta again and this time both of them pray to Lord Krishna.
