Binod Pradhan hails from Kalimpong, West Bengal. His affair with photography started long back when his father bought him his first camera, which he would take with him, while he walked to school everyday, capturing the beauty of the scenic locales of Kalimpong as he walked.
He went on to graduate from the FTII. Binod Kumar Pradhan is one of the best cinematographers in India today.
Binod has worked as a cinematographer in many movies, the more noteworthy of which being 1942 A Love Story, Mission Kashmir, Devdas, Munnabhai M.B.B.S. and Dil Jo Bhi Kahey.
His splendid visual artistry over the last many years has fetched him many awards and recognition. Binod Kumar Pradhan has done some exceptional work, in 1942 A Love Story, Devdas, Kareeb, and lately Rang De Basanti in which some different techniques were used such as using four frames per second for the title shots, and the tilted camera Dutch angle shots for dramatic effects.
The shots of beautiful locales in Heroes (2008) were also exceptional.
