Bittoo Boss rating: 3 out of 10(Divya Solgama wrote on 13 Apr 2012)

In mid 70’s few film makers started making Middle of the road cinema based on the middle class or the simple working people belonging to urban and rural cities. Many times there use to be one simple story line, but brilliantly executed or well performed by the actors use to balance such feel good films. You don’t need a big star cast or some top most film maker to make such film; if your content is good people do appreciate good work. But then there are some such films which start of a one line concept but fail over the execution part. Let’s find out whether ‘Bittoo Boss’ a non starrer film with a unusual storyline based upon a wedding video shooter will sustain over its concept or might be just another dud with just a good one liner plot.

“Bittoo Boss” is story of a small town star wedding video shooter Bittoo {Pulkit Samrat} who loves his job and does it with his own unique style. He is favorite of everyone especially the young females in the wedding. On such occasion bittoo meets Mrinalini {Amirta Pathak} a well educated upper market girl. Bittoo falls in love with her and after a while she too starts having a soft spot for him. Being a high ambitious girl she wants Bittoo to become a big man and wants him to adjust as per people’s terms. Bittoo fails to do that and in order to earn more money he leaves for Shimla to make adult video’. Will he be able to do such bad work? Well that’s what the entire film about.

Story in one line is very good. Yes it might remind you of Band Baaja Baarat and few such films in the initial part, but later the movie is at its own plot. Overall it’s a typical Romantic film plot where a poor boy with good heart meets a rich girl and in order to become big, he takes the wrong path and later has change of heart. Besides good music and chemistry between the lead pair screenplay is very important in such films, sadly its one of the weakest part of the film along with the editing work. The screenplay moves on its own pace and at times it tries to takes it audience for granted too. On positive note scenes like Bittoo’s entry part, Bittoo’s anger over T.V head guy, Bittoo fooling Deepak Kapoor, change of heart, climax idea. But all these scenes goes in vain as on the flip side the narration is so slow and boring with some unexplained scenes like Bittoo’s fight in marriage, Amrita firing Bittoo, Amrita coming to Shimla, Amrita’s sudden marriage and many more. Also the movie has loads of sub plots and unnecessary characters. Camera work is very good, but editing work is bad and thus movie seems to be lengthy as well as boring.

Music by Raghav Sachar is pretty average except for ‘Meherbaan’.

Debutant director Supavitra Babul starts with a good concept but looks like lack of experience spoils the fun. The director takes it own sweet time to convey the message, which is already conveyed to the audience. Also the sub plots and lack of chemistry between the lead pair ruins the effect of the film. We hope in future if the director gets another good concept, he should try to focus on the detailing and the script part.

Debutant actor Pulkit Samrat is very good and confident actor. One can see the spark in him. But the constant smile on his face starts to irritate after a while. Amrita Pathak after Haal E Dil and Aakrosh gives another wooden performance. She looks so manly and acts horrible. Mohan Kapoor and Rajinder Sethi are strictly ok. One might like Vikky the cab driver.

So bol meri ‘Filmi Khopdi’ iss film mein kitna hai Dum?
Except for one liner plot iss film mein bilkul bhi Dum nahin hai. The movie is perfect example for all such people who feel they have a winner in their hand with one liner script and controlled budget for the film. Along with these two major things you also need a good screenplay and a better director to execute it. The movie got censored with PG {Parental Guidance} certification for first time, which the makers used it for marketing purpose. They should have added one more Guidance with the movie promo or poster – BG which means Boredom guaranteed.
