  • Bodyguard - a detailed preview

    Bodyguard rating: 0 out of 10(Amit R wrote on 15 Aug 2011)

The plot: When it comes to being punctual and doing his duties perfectly, Lovely Singh is unmatchable. Taking great pride in what he does, he spares no effort in giving his everything to his profession. Summoned for an assignment of guarding Divya, the daughter of Sartaj Rana, a business tycoon, Lovely Singh accompanies her to her campus.

The inspiration: Shera, the real life bodyguard for Salman Khan is in charge of Salman’s protection for the last 15 years. Shera was honored by the actor when Salman requested his to unveil the very first trailer for the film, and made Shera dance in a song promo for the film!

The Music: The music of Bodyguard made moderate success with its songs like Desi Beat, I love You, Teri Meri. But, it's not of that scale that Salman's previous two films - Dabangg & Ready achieved.

The Buzz: The film also generated huge buzz after the stars announced their plan to make a 15 Cities tour with an innovative contest, which invited fans to be the Stars' Bodyguard for a day in their respective cities. The film could also be Kareena's much touted hatrick in terms of big bollywood grossers; her last two 3 Idiots and Golmaal 3 were huge blockbusters.

The controversy: Apparently, Salman refused to attach Don 2 trailer with his movie in the theaters. It's obvious that the reason is his enemy no 1 - the superstar Shah rukh Khan.

The prediction: Just like Dabangg, Salman chose Bodyguard to release over the Eid weekend, followed by the Ganpati festival. One can expect that the opening collection, currently held by Dabangg, will be broken by Bodyguard. Even an average of 11 – 12 crores net per day would mean a 55 – 60 crore weekend! But, it's remain to be seen if Bodyguard can do that. It has to be better than Salman's last film Ready, which though declared hit, but was far from impressive. So, with not so buzzing music, but high on buzz coupled with the festival timing, the future of the movie will be interesting to track for.
