Tutul Banerjee who had last directed Deba in ‘Mejobabu’ which also starred Nabamita Chatterjee(granddaughter of the Mahanayak) returns with him with Balidan. It is a low budget trashy film about a guy, Rahul staying with his family in a village who goes to work everyday to Kolkata. He helps to recover the handbag of a sex worker Tithi which a pick pocket had snatched from here. Meanwhile Tithi has become a sex worker because of desperate situations in the family such as her eldest brother who has got cancer, paying for his children’s education etc and she is the only earning member. When her elder brother gets a job (not the cancer affected one), she is forbidden to go to Kolkata anymore and she quits her profession. Meanwhile Rahul’s family fixes his marriage with Tithi though both of them are unaware and when Rahul goes to Tithi ‘s house and they see each other they are shocked. Tithi asks to speak to Rahul in private and they do so, but soon afterwards she consumes poison and commits suicide. Rahul remains unmarried forever
Nothing is mentionable about this film and god knows how Deba continues to be a hero? The same needs to be said about Rikta, the heroine of this film as the less said about her the better. No one knows why such films are made.
