  • Bor Aasbe Ekhuni rating: 6 out of 10(Aditya Chakrabarty wrote on 17 Sep 2008)

    • Rangan Chakraborty who is a very familiar name on the small screen of as a film maker makes an impressive big screen debut with his first feature film BOR ASBE EKHONI. It is a sweet little film considering the other Bengali films we get to see nowadays , but it could have been better. Jisshu and Koel who have appeared in several films together as a leading pair and will continue to do so as they are being promoted as a leading couple nowadays play their roles convincingly, more so in the case of Jisshu. The role of Koel (Mitil) is negative at times as she never expresses her feelings to Avik (Jisshu) and asks him to leave indirectly even after what he had done for her. In the initial stages, there is no regrets. Most of the songs are pretty nice and hummable though a couple of song could have been cut short. A particular song “Saiyaan…” though a very beautiful song gets repetitive as it is sung over and over again. All the characters play their parts really well, including Biswajit Chakraborty as Mitil’s father and Rita Koryal as the nagging mother of Mitil. Kanchan as usual is spontaneous. Special mention must be made of Tanima Sen as the landlady who in a first major role in a film simply delightful and she simply steals the show from the others. One sincerely hopes film makers do justice to her talent in movies to follow. The last part of the film is dramatic yet absurd too where the bride is shown riding away a scooty from the altar and there is total cacophony at the hospital where all the relevant characters gather at the end! Now in which hospital are such absurd things allowed to take place and that too at night?
