    Sita is a poor village girl. The cruel zaminder, Fajababu wants to marry her ,but she doesn’t like him. She marries Kanai , a poor yet honest person. She is referred to as bouthan by her two brothers in law (Subol and Balai) and sister in law. Kanai takes ill and dies and the responsibility of the family falls on Sita. She sends Subol and Balai to Calcutta to pursue their education. In Calcutta some boys put drugs in Balai's bag and inform the police. Subol takes the blame on himself and the police arrest him.When Subol is released from jail, he comes to the village. He does not want to return to the city. He comes to know that Puti, their sister is now a widow. Meanwhile Fajababu continues his atrocities on the poor villagers. Subol protests against the zamindar and is beaten up by Rajababu's men. Subol is injured and around the same time Balai's wife gets pregnant and they need a servant. Balai goes to Bouthan and introduces her as a maid. Subol reacheds there one day and gets Bouthan back to the village. Rajababu's son, Pradip is in love with Puti but Rajababu thinks that this is Bouthans plan. He sends some people to kidnap Puti who bring her to Rajababu. He tries to rape her but Bouthan comes and kills him. She is arrested by the police and taken to jail and Puti is accepted by Pradip.
