Another Aniruddha comes in to the field. After Aniruddha “Anuranan” Roy Chowdhury, this time Aniruddha “Box No 1313” Bhattacharya. This is A.B’s debut film as director.
The title signifies a small ad in a newspaper box whose number is double thirteen, that means one bad luck negated by another bad luck, which also means it is a comedy film and it’s “different”.
What are the ingredients of the comedy? Very simple. Reality shows like “Bakra” in M Tv or “Swambhar” in Star Jalsa or Raakhi Sawant’s hunt for her husband in ND Tv imagine. So, there are tv show host like Biswanath and Bakra-Man Cyrus Brocha, alias, Parambrata.
The concept of the film is unique. Prambrata’s worried mother and father put a matrimonial ad in a newspaper for their son. And so comes a matchmaker, Paran Bandyopadhyay who adds another layer of comedy. And finally the reality show in search of the bride who would be able to answer 10 questions in a rapid fire round-style.
But the problem with the film is too many unique things at a time in a cooking pot and everybody know too many things spoil the brawth.
I wonder why there is Paoli Dam in the film if she has nothing to do after the initial scenes? There are three con-women in the form of June Malia-Swaralipi-Rupanjana. Why? One was enough because they are all almost of the same category. There is also a goon in the story line played by Kanchan Mallick to add more spice. And there is Monami Ghosh as an airhostess. Who ultimately agrees to spend a whole day with a stranger without any solid reason.
Aniruddha wanted to give options of women of different categories to the present day wannabe grooms in the form of confused and selfish, frauds and small time cooks like Paoli, June, Swaralipi, Rupanjana and Monami. But the screenplay is so disjointed and meaningless that it has spoilt the uniqueness of the concept of his film. Even the use of animation and music of “Chandrabindoo” were unable to give it a proper platform.
But Aniruddha has left us with hope that he is a ‘Hatke’ kind of thinking director. Bangla film industry needs this kind of filmmaker too.
