It is story of Shankar Dharma (Mithun Chakraborty) who has to share his family responsiblites with mother Savitri (Tanuja) at a very small age. His father Dharma (Danny) becomes a drunkard when he loses a boxing match and becomes unfit to play for health reasons. Shankar starts cheating others to earn money. He meets Rajni (Rati Agnihotri) one day and falls in love. When Rajni's father comes to know about Shankar's bad deeds and cheating, he gets him arrested and sent to jail.
