One word can describe it only: CRAP...

Byomkesh Bokshi rating: 1 out of 10

Let me be totally straight-forward about this. It is a complete trash-bin material, and it gives me a lot of pain to write this about a movie that has been made from the story written by one of the finest writers bengali literature has ever produced. Saradindu bandopadhyay brought the characters of Adim ripu alive thru his writing..and Anjan Dutta, somehow, managed to kill those lively characters , in his film.

Where from I start, there are so many "Oh God" type expressions ..lets begin with the "satyaneshi" himself..Abir Chatterjee in the role of Byomkesh. Let ... » read more

Byomkesh Bakshi is a very renowned detective in Bengali literature created by Saradindu Bandopadhay and has been also one of the most popular characters in Bengali literature like Feluda, Tenida and Ghanada.’Chiriakhana’ was the first screen adaptation of the sleuth starring Uttam Kumar as Byomkesh and Sailen Mukherjee as Ajit. After that Satindra Bhattacharya played Byomkesh in ‘Sajarur Kanta’, directed By Manju Dey.After that there have been a few television serials regarding Byomkesh featuring Rajit Kapur, Sudip Mukherjee,Saptarshi Roy and were more or less okay adaptations, ... » read more

    "Dutt's Byomkesh"

Byomkesh Bokshi rating: 5 out of 10

By Chandi Mukherjee (16 Aug 2010)

Director Anjan Dutt has named his latest film “Byomkesh Bokshi” based on Saradindu Bandyopadhyay’s detective novel “Adim Ripu”, why not? If a Hollywood film based on Conan Doyel be named as “Sherlok Homes”, why can’t he do the same thing?

Director Dutt not only change the name of the story, he also changes the time perspective of the story, which is not only important, but significant too. Saradindu’s novel was set against 1947 pre independence era and the climax happens on the early morning of the 15th August. Dutt has set his film in the 1962 and the backdrop ... » read more

    A different Dutt

Byomkesh Bokshi rating: 5 out of 10

Bengali detective films are no more the realm of the Rays. Here comes a Dutt, who sneaks into their well proctected arena,of course demanding an individual space and identity.with Bomkesh Bokshi,Dutt embarks on a new voyage, creating at least ripples if not dashing in the minds of bengali filmgoers.Based on Sharadindu's novel Adim ripu, the film is set against the communal riot of the 62s that almost crippled Calcutta and its citizens.Murders, ransacks, hurling of bombs, vandalisms were the order of the day.The whole city was burning with fire ,fear and mistrust. The whole backdrop, though ... » read more
