Feel good films have been flavor of the last quarter, whatever is the theme, put the toppings of “Feel Good” and people will like it. Yes it did work in few films and in some which were genuinely good, missed out. But then there were such films which had forced feel good factor, followed by overdose of the same. Shahid Kapoor has a loyal fan who loves his next door chocolate type image and thus the makers took another same imaged star Genelia D'Souza and we have “Chance Pe Dance”. But does the feel good factor with these sweet actors work? let’s find out.

“Chance Pe Dance” is story of Sam {Shahid Kapoor} a struggling actor who dreams of becoming a big super star on basis of his acting abilities and dancing style. After loads of struggle he manages to score in front of a big director Rajiv Sharma {Monish Behl} and bags his next film. Out there he gets friendly with the choreographer of the film Tina {Genelia D'Souza}, who keeps motivating him all the time. Sadly Sam loses his home and job, and in order to survive in the city he joins a School as dance teacher. Fate as its own story to tell, Rajiv Sharma decides to go for a Talent hunt and thus drops Sam from his film. Sam is heartbroken and aimless and at that time Tina again motivates him to go for his dreams and thus Sam decides to write its own fate by taking part in the competition.
Story is like a old wine in new bottle, but out there the wine taste better and over here it loses out all the fizzles.

The story is so predicted that a small kid who has watched more than a dozen films can tell you what’s next. Screenplay is better and has its own moments, especially in the first half. There are some feel good moments like the titles, Audition of Sam, Lungi Ad, Shahid-Genelia Ride, etc. but with every good thing you get some bad stuff attached. Out here it’s the pace of the film, which puts pace of 1950’s film to shame. The movie takes it own time to move and thus one starts loosing the interest in it. In second half there are some forced Feel good scenes with a hurried and bland climax, portraying the half hearted writing of the makers. Camera work is good and has been used well in dancing scenes.

Music is good but not best as such films requires. Still “Pe Pe Pe” and few more are enjoyable. The best of all is “Ishq Hai” which has been creatively shot keeping in mind the mood and feel of the song.

Ken Gosh made one of the sweet feel good college romance film “Ishq Vishq” , but later started to lose out his touch. Out here he tries his best to get the same mood, but barring few scenes fails miserably. His forced feel good factor, slow paced direction does not connect with the mood and audience of the film.

Shahid Kapoor looks Cute and dances very well, but we have seen this so many times and especially after Kaminey we don’t expect him to be repetitive. Still it’s because of him one does manage to enjoy the film too. Genelia D'Souza is good and plays her part very well, but nothing to boost about. Monish Behel, Parikshet Shahni, Satish Shah are good. Vikas Bhalla after so many years too hams and portrays a bad performance.

So bol meri “Filmi Khopdi” is film mein kitna hain dum ?

Dum hain, kutch kutch scenes mein acha khaasa dum hain along with Shahid Kapoors screen presence, but thanks to the pace and predicted story line one does loose the interest in the film. After watching some great films in last quarter of last year, the makers need to get something much better and fresh for audience to even come and see the film and luck by chance if audience comes in this film I guess then the makers can dance. But till then it’s a left foot affair.
